IE on Linux

Taking the advice of Peter Merel from the last post, we're beginning to pursue the automation of browser-based testing for the project. Automation to me means Linux (no way in hell I'm going to try this on Windows, that's just a rabbit hole), so I set up Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on Linux this afternoon. I'm not sure if this is sacrilege or making the best of a bad lot.

Um, yep. I should probably post some instructions on how to do this—it turns out not to be too difficult because of some quality work done by others. The biggest headaches so far were getting through our corporate proxy for the IE installation process (d’oh!), and I’m still trying to figure out how to make PNG images show up in this IE install. Probably some “service pack” nonsense.

Anyway, it’s decidedly a bizarre thing to have running. I think I’m going to back up ~/.wine and then take the thing to some site that is just a trojan/spyware hive and see what it does to it.
